Implants – Single Tooth Replacement
A dental implant is usually the best treatment method to replace a single lost tooth.
Unlike a bridge, an implant-retained crown does not rest on neighbouring teeth; it is a discrete individual unit. The adjacent teeth therefore are not filed down, and they maintain their structural integrity. The teeth are also not joined together as they are with a bridge.
In our dentists’ hands the placement of a single tooth implant is a remarkably simple process, and most procedures can be completed within half an hour. In many cases a crown can be affixed to the implant at the same appointment so that the patient leaves our practice with a brand new tooth.
Step by Step Procedure
1. BeforehandAfter your consultation and x-rays some preparatory treatment may be required. If your tooth is still present, it may need to be extracted before the time of implant placement. Alternatively it is often possible to extract the tooth at the same time as the implant placement. 2. Placing the implantThis is usually a short procedure performed under local anaesthesia. Post-operative discomfort and swelling is rare. In visible areas a temporary tooth will be placed so that you can eat and behave as normal after the procedure. 3. Fitting the new toothAfter a couple of months a permanent crown can be placed on the implant. This is a simple procedure with no discomfort. This can be performed at our office, or by your general dentist if you have been referred by them to us. 4. The beautiful resultYour new tooth fits and functions just like a natural tooth.
